Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts Trust me, I love surprising opponents with casting Sunlight Spear directly after casting Crystal Soul Spear, and it seems to do pretty well. But is it worth it? I know I can cast basically all magic with it, but is it worth it for my build. My SS at +5 is 319 dark damage, and +10 BWS is only 263, but also has the other magical damages as well.EDIT: This is my first attempt at a magic based character.Depends what you want. It's not exactly worth using this thing for damage dealing miracles but it's pretty nice for casting buffs or heals. The problem is that many hexes already require multiple attunement slots, so you might not want to "waste" slots on other schools of magic that won't be as powerful most of the time. The problem is that many hexes already require multiple attunement slots, so you might not want to "waste" slots on other schools of magic that won't be as powerful most of the time.I figured I'd stick with my dark orbs x2, and dark weapon, but drop dark hail, and dark fog.
A more effective use of the Black Witch Staff would be something like setting up a combo with Blinding Bolt then following up with a projectile like Great Resonant Soul, Crystal Soul Spear, Climax, ect...I was thinking the same thing. Pretty sure it ends up better than the Archdrake Staff when upgraded. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts I have a fully upgraded dark infused Sunset Staff that I use for my hexer/mace/silverblack build. Overall, would I be fine with just using a regular staff with sorceries and select hexes? I just picked up the black witches staff. I pretty much exclusively use Sorceries.well that's all you can use with that staff. Caitha's Chime is a good budget chime for hexes if you need one before beating the game. A catalyst for sorceries and hexes. Lizard Staff.Just looking at the statlines of the different staffs, the Power-Speed scale goes:Azal>>>Sunset>Transgressor>Archdrake>Witchtree for Hexes. It appears that unless you want the Sorcerer's Staff for buffing, Black Witch Staff for utility, or one of the Catalyst Weapons, there's no point in using any staff other than the ones on the list. NEU: Alle Dark-Souls-2-DLCs gelöst.
Archdrake Staff. There's many reasons to use other casting implements.Just wanted to note a few things: Never use Azals Staff, at least in PvP. Both use 2 attunement slotsI would have at least 4 attunement slots for miracles and sorceries.I find the BWS better for PvP because its cast time is faster and you aren't telegraphing what spells you're about to cast. I know I can cast basically all magic with it, but is it worth it for my build. Pretty sure it ends up better than the Archdrake Staff when upgraded.Caitha's Chime is a good budget chime for hexes if you need one before beating the game. The Black Witch Staff might not be the most powerful to cast any kind of magic but it's like the 3rd best for either sorcery or staff hexes (with the corresponding infusion). The BWS is surprisingly effective for beating people upside the head with, if nothing else. I just picked up the black witches staff. Sunset Staff is a weapon in Dark Souls 2. That 4x damage type stacking is better than most would expect.
The mysterious Lord Aldia secluded himself inside a manor to conduct various experiments. Every other staff is either less powerful and/or slower than these. They are used to cast Sorceries, Hexes and even Miracles. You're still usually better off just swinging your actual weapon, but you can catch someone off guard with a staff swing and do reasonable damage.Azal's should never be used for PvE - you lose ungodly amounts of damage-per-attunment-slot in exchange for some slightly more powerful spells.I'm a really big fan of the staff of Amana for sorcery. Use Witchtree Branch.Just want something to cast weapon buffs, Yearn, and Chameleon with minimal stat investment? This means you don't need to carry two casting tools if you want both, chime and staff hexes and you won't accidentially try to cast a spell with the wrong catalyst.Depending on your build it will also be decent for using some sorceries at medium power and maybe a few miracles.
